Work on the laws of sheḥiṭah (kosher slaughter) and ṭerefot (kosher ritual inspection) created by Yiḥye Yonah Saliman Ibn Wanneh (from his formulary for composing a Semikhah (permission to slaughter) with his tuǧra autograph, dated 15 Elul 5608 [13 September 1848]; f. 1r); the work is composed of selections from the Shulḥan ʻarukh Yoreh deʻah, and also includes cabalistic portions and mystical allusions behind the kashrut laws. The author was a student of Yaḥyā ben Joseph Ṣaliḥ, also known as Maharits (1725-1806; "מורי ורבי צלח מהרר"צ נחל עדן...", f. 54v; additionally recording a birth of son Yosef on 19 Nisan 5608 [Saturday, 22 April 1848; f. 70r). Written in a 19th century Yemenite semicursive script; bound in contemporary cloth.
Notes:
First leaf of the text decorated (triangles and circles, overlined, with floral patterns at top; f. 2r).
Laid in with the manuscript: a fragment of a manuscript text of a hashbaʻah (a talismanic protection against demons), Yemen, circa early 20th century; and a fragment of an ethical text, pasted on to the endleaf, Yemen, late 19th century.
