- Summary:
- Abeeda (14) and her family have just moved to the Kolkata. They have illegally crossed the border from Bangladesh to move to Kolkata. Her father Jahangir and his brother Afsal have got work as construction labour. The family consisting of Jahangir, his wife Ruksar and two children Abeeda and Faisal and Jahangir's brother Afsal, his wife and three children Tooba, Mushir and Misbah start living in a squatter at the construction site itself. Jahangir seems very secretive about their identity. He doesn't want them to interact with anyone with the fear that it might give away their identity. They house next to where this family stays is a big bungalow whose residents are a high profile Hindu family. The father a businessman, the mother a socialite and the daughter Tara Talwar, a 19 year old college girl. Abeeda spends hours looking inside Tara's room and almost develops a sort of obsession with the girl and her lifestyle. Abeeda starts to think of herself almost as a part of the family. Once while Tara is sneaking a boy into her house at night, she catches Abeeda looking at her and smiles up at her and motions to Abeeda to seal her lips. One fateful day, Abeeda's father, Jahangir falls from the building while working and hurts himself. The Contractor who has given them the job has to hush up the death so that there is no further enquiry or else It will be found that they are illegally living here. As there is one less earning member in the family, Abeeda went to the talwar house as househelp. Abeeda begins to realize some disturbing truths about the family once she begins to work there. The rosy happy rich family seems very twisted and dysfunctional now. One fateful day, Mr. Talwar forgets to lock his closet which has a lot of money lying inside and though Tara is the one who has stolen the money as she does frequently, Abeeda is accused of it as Mr. Talwar discovers the closet unlocked and money missing. As Abeeda is being accused and yelled at, she realizes that Tara, the girl she had idolized and looked up to all this while is the real culprit and will never own up to it. The film ends with Abeeda looking at Tara devastated and distraught.
