Summary:
"Camille Kachani, exile as the engine of work" brings together works produced throughout the trajectory of thirty years of the artist's career, accompanied by an essay by curator and critic Paulo Herkenhoff. Merging sculpture, collage and drawing, Kachani's artistic practice investigates the transformation of nature by giving new readings to everyday elements, which lose their previously established functions by becoming new and unique hybrid artifacts. Huge flies or stuffed dumpsters, branches growing from books or musical instruments, drawings formed by chewing gum or coffee and milk powder are part of this universe created by the artist. Kachani's art thus deconstructs certainties and shakes convictions, exploring concepts such as identity, belonging, culture and movement. As Herkenhoff describes it, Camille Kachani is part of a select set of contemporary philosopher artists who understand art as "a dense and solid conceptual process." For the author, "the extensive universe of Kachani's production involves subjects as disparate as the abject and phenomenology of music, war and flies, a Babelic dimension of language and Benjaminian counterpart history, fellatio and a piano, misanthropy and a violin, affectivity and grenades, racism and memory, Nietzsche and Lispector, the estrangement and the vegetation." These approaches take Herkenhoff's reflections to the fields of philosophy, linguistics, psychoanalysis, political sciences and religion, in an attempt to reach the Kachanian complex corpus, full of senses, symbols and meanings.
