- Summary:
- Continuous electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring is an important, noninvasive diagnostic test to ensure timely recognition and treatment of abnormal brain activity such as seizures. We designed a retrospective cohort study involving a large, multicenter EEG database to evaluate the risk of seizure in critically ill patients exhibiting certain patterns on EEG. In this case study, we discuss the practicalities of creating and maintaining this unique, longitudinal data set collected by clinicians, challenges to consider when data collection requires subjective interpretation of information, and the use of multivariate logistic regression as a statistical approach to analyze qualitative data.
