Summary:
This case study covers a research study on treatment fidelity in Model of Human Occupation treatment efficacy studies. The research study itself retrospectively examines treatment fidelity in previously published studies on the outcomes of Model of Human Occupation-based treatment with the National Institutes of Health Behavior Change Consortium Five-Part Treatment Fidelity Framework and Treatment Fidelity Measure. We use this case to demonstrate how descriptive statistics can characterize a phenomenon such as treatment fidelity when limited information exists on the topic and how this approach can generate new research questions for future scientific inquiry. We discuss critical decisions made during the design and implementation phases of our research study as well as practical lessons about the balance between rigor and clinical utility, a detailed research plan, and communication that can be applied across researchers and research studies.
