Summary:

While researchers have explored recruitment issues in various health-related studies, there is a lack of understanding about recruitment issues in the context of intervention studies focused on hard-to-reach populations and more specifically, carer-employees. The purpose of this case is to reflect on recruitment challenges faced by our research team in the process of conducting our intervention study with carer-employees at a Canadian university. To resolve recruitment challenges, our team employed a variety of complementary approaches to reach the target sample size. In this case, we reflect on these approaches, as well as on the lessons learned throughout the process, which other researchers might find useful when conducting intervention studies with carer-employees and other hard-to-reach populations.
