- Summary:
- People with lived experience of homelessness are known to encounter difficulties accessing health care due to systemic and societal barriers. As medical trainees, we were cognizant of these facts but discovered that there was a dearth of information about the experiences of this marginalized group in our regional health system. We designed and conducted a qualitative descriptive study using semi-structured interviews and inductive thematic analysis-arguably simple, yet powerful, research methods that yielded new knowledge on the barriers and facilitators to care in our region. Qualitative descriptive approaches offer tools and a method to generate new and actionable knowledge about the issues of marginalized populations and can provide a strong foundation for community-engaged research.
