Summary:

This research project case focuses on the use of qualitative methods to explore the perceptions of staff around patient safety in the NHS Ambulance Services. The case study outlines the study, including the methods of data collection and analysis used, as well as their justification and respective strengths and limitations. The background literature of this study informed the choice of qualitative methods; therefore, this will also be discussed to highlight when a qualitative methodology is suitable when researching the perceptions of health professionals. As this study included NHS staff from a range of organizational levels (operational, management, and executive), the challenges of conducting research with this population will be explored, in particular, from the perspective as a researcher who is not a clinician.
