- Summary:
- Evaluating a program is a crucial component of program planning and implementation. Evaluations are also useful in determining internal and external validity of a program and deciding next steps in terms of revisions and scaling up. There are many factors that go into the success of a program, and evaluations are necessary because they unveil all the different components that contribute to the program's success or failure. This case study seeks to discuss the steps taken to conduct a comprehensive (formative and summative) quantitative evaluation of the Youth Research Fellows Training (YRFT) program, a public health research methods training program piloted among a group of Black girls aged 10-14 years participating in the GrassROOTS Community Foundation Super Camp in the summer of 2018. The goal of the YRFT program is to equip young agents of social change with additional skills related to research methods and with using data to address social justice and public health issues in their communities.
