- Summary:
- Based on an in-depth interview with 22 Chinese women in Britain, the primary aim of this case is to talk about culture and the role it plays in face-to-face interviews. This case study is focused on various culturally related ethical issues which came into play during my doctoral research fieldwork looking at the lives of Chinese women who followed their husbands to the United Kingdom for their careers. Despite the fact that I was accepted by my interviewees as an "insider" because of my identity as a Chinese woman in the United Kingdom, I still had problems. My young age and my identity as an unmarried woman sometimes weakened my power as a researcher. The emotional implications of the interviewing process also affected my research group and myself.
