Summary:

This case study reviews the detailed survey methodology we used to examine support for gay marriage. In the case study, we discuss both the advantages and disadvantages of using an original dataset as opposed to collecting original data. In particular, issues such as validity are examined and how such issues impact the choice of research methods by researchers. Moreover, we discuss the inherent problems in constructing clear and concise measures that provide researchers with valid and measurable data while minimizing respondent fatigue. Finally, we offer advice on how to administer surveys so as to increase completion rates by respondents.
