Summary:
Among the challenges faced by students in undergraduate econometrics, being able to link statistical methods to economic problems in a meaningful way can be particularly challenging because of the lack of relevancy or empirical experience. A replication project can overcome those challenges by making econometrics more relevant and interesting. In this case, we specify a set of guidelines that can be used by students and instructors to inform the process of successfully replicating published papers, provide a student's perspective on the replication experience that may be helpful for encouragement of replication activities, and suggest a scoring rubric for assessing replication projects in a formalized way.
