- Summary:
- This is a proposal for a supplementary book on music education from Mary Stakelum, a well-respected name in this area. It takes a firmly child-centred approach looking at how children relate to and understand music, with an applied angle exploring how those working with children (EY practitioners, primary school teachers, other music educators) can apply this knowledge to benefit their own practice. As such it should appeal to more adventurous students on early childhood courses and primary teacher education, and also postgraduate music education and researchers. I asked Mary to frame the proposal to allow it to work outside the UK, our positive Aus reviewer (R4) suggests that this can sell overseas. The proposal has reviewed very well, and Mary has made some minor tweaks bringing in chapter sub-topics highlighted by reviewers (these are highlighted in yellow on the proposal). Creative subjects/childhood is a useful cross-over area in which to publish; other supps have accrued some decent e-sales topping up the printing For example, Jude's Fumoto et al - Young Children's Creative Thinking, the combined YR1 p and e sales of which (9,337 pounds + 6,976 pounds) met 158 percent of its target. One thing that would definitely augment the marketing of this would be some synergy with our large number of music education SAGE journals: (1) International Journal of Music Education; (2) Research Studies in Music Education; (3) Journal of Music Teacher Education; (4) Music Educators Journal; and (5) Journal of Research in Music Education. For example advertising a discount code purchase to subscribers of these would nicely bring the attention of this to an international audience, as would reviews in these journals, and some form of advertising.
