- Summary:
- This case study provides an overview of methodological considerations when conducting research in correctional facilities (e.g. jails and prisons) and with incarcerated populations. Specifically, we focus on the challenges and benefits of using the life history calendar method in the context of a mixed-methods study. We describe in detail how the life history calendar tool was used in this study to elicit information about the victimization experiences and mental health of women who are incarcerated. An overview of the types of data that can be extracted using the life history calendar method and a basic description of our analysis approach to the diverse data provided by this method are discussed.
