- Summary:
- In the modern political climate, topics can be charged and the public often looks to science for answers to health-related issues. This is why, in the interdisciplinary field of alcohol and drug research, it is essential to avoid "pet" ideas that could become agendas that might ultimately harm or marginalize others. Using some of my own research experiences as examples, I will discuss four methods for managing personal agendas and avoiding confirmation bias in alcohol and drug research. These methods could apply to many fields and can aid positive progress in our research pursuits.
