- This case study aims to shed light on methodological aspects of conducting narrative research with international students studying in a host country. Particular attention is paid to the use of a research journal and the discussion of advantages of conducting a pilot study before the main data collection. This study will be of interest to beginning researchers who are considering conducting narrative studies with foreign citizens, ethnic and religious minorities, and marginalized groups of students. The author discusses the ways to build trusting relationships with participants; analyzes the challenges that might arise during recruitment, organization, conducting, and debriefing stages of data collection; and emphasizes the importance of planning the ethical side of a narrative inquiry.
