- Summary:
- The book alludes to different exchange processes that emerged from the 1970s onwards in the documentaries of the Cono Sur (Argentina, Chile and Uruguay): on the one hand, the transition is directly linked to the processes opened by the downfall of dictatorial regimes and the subsequent consolidation of democratic governments that crossed in a different and differentiated way to the three countries. On the other hand, that night also refers to the technological changes that affect the audiovisual access - in the film, video or digital -, its expressive potential and its possibilities for circulation. But beyond these, the documentary production of these years is also informed by another type of transition, unfolding between narratives and corridors in the space, through the return of exiled filmmakers and the articulation of different media horizons and work modalities located between industrial and "handcraftedʺ production, between film, video and television. The study of transitions as a cultural and aesthetic category has not been given equal weight within the framework of political science. However, the confluence of political, cultural and technological developments in the documentary has left distinct marks in the works that allow us to think about an aesthetics of transitions. Includes texts by: Pablo Gullino, Mariel Balás, Sebastián Valenzuela, Mariana Achugar, Julieta Keldjian, Beatriz Tadeo Fuica, Federico Beltramelli, Catalina Donoso Pinto, Valeria De los Ríos Escobar, Antonio Traverso, Elizabeth Ramírez Soto, José Miguel Palacios, Javier Campo, Gustavo Aprea, Paola Margulis.
