- Summary:
- The story concerns a humane doctor who is moved to help the residents of a small city in Corsica who are being exploited by a cruel factory owner. His wife leaves him since he is preoccupied with his concerns for his patients. He finds the love of his life after his wife's departure but cannot save one of the factory workers who is driven to murder after the loss of his job, his home, and his wife.
