Summary:
This research offers us a vision of the architectural evolution of hospitals in Mexico, from the Colony to the 19th century liberalism, based on their spatial organization and the adaptations, remodeling or expansions they underwent in this period, as they reflect adjustments to the needs they faced, particularly improvements in habitability. Physical renovations mark starting points in paradigm shifts, whether conceptual, structural, or organizational, and point to patterns that indicate characteristics of spatial conditions. This first volume includes material that exposes the structures developed in the colonial era and includes the types of organization and variations that continued to develop in the period of formation of the nation states in America and that in the case of Mexico lasted through the political ups and downs of the nineteenth century, thus establishing the hospital architecture typical of the cloister model.
