- Summary:
- A report on the prevalence of antibiotic use on farm animals and its impact. More than 12 million pounds of antibiotics sold in the U.S. are used for livestock. Many feel these antibiotics drive the spread of drug resistant bacteria in animals which can be passed onto us through food. Due to a lack of accessibility, however, scientists say it is difficult to stop infection outbreaks from spreading amidst already unregulated conditions. Includes interviews with Dr. Scott Lindquist, epidemiologist; Dr. Liz Wagstrom, chief veterinarian; and Dr. Lance Price, microbiologist and leading expert in drug-resistant bacteria.
