Summary:
A report on traditional Dutch ice skating race Elfstedentocht. Since 1909, winning the 125 mile test of endurance has garnered national fame and honor. While the race is held in the Austrian Alps due to climate change, thousands of Dutch skaters travel to take part in the culturally significant competition. Includes interview with Wiebe Wieling, chief organizer; Erben Wennemars, world champion skater; Henk Angenent, brussels sprouts farmer and race winner; Norbert Jank, who decided the site of the race based on ice; Charit, Janika, Flores, Farika, Jenrique, Stunni, Hetti, Leonard, and Johan Blom, a family who competes in and/or watches the race yearly; and Howard Morris, an American librarian and race participant.
