Summary:
The document known as Codex Martín de Toro, Codex Chiapa de Mota or Illustrated memorials of don Pedro Martín de Toro, in addition to describing the participation of the Otomi in the settlement of the Bajío, mentions their relationship with other groups, such as the Huachichiles and the Pames, who lived mainly on hunting and gathering. This study will delve into the history of the otopame language-speaking groups (otomíes, mazahuas matlatzincas, ocuiltecos, pames and chichimeca jonaz), to better understand the events that occurred within the long process of the Spanish conquest and pacification of the northern indigenous groups, and of the participation within this process of the sedentary groups of the Central Highlands and the nomadic groups themselves from the second half of the 16th century to the end of the 17th century.
