- The Schools of the Metropolitan Museum of Art were founded in the winter of 1879-80 to provide vocational training in woodworking and metalworking. Over the next 15 year the schools' curriculum and location changed a number of times, until their transfer to the basement of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's building. The schools were discontinued in 1895 due to financial difficulties.
