Summary:
Pizmon book, use of Tunis, arranged by Eliyahu Baśmuṭ, for the use of events and holidays across the year; many of the hymns are attributed in the captions above the text (for example, פיוט ס'[ימן] פרג'י חז"ק, f. 2r; סימן פרג"י סיכא, f. 5r; פיוט ברול מהיא, f. 17r; the abundance of hymns composed by the Moroccan poet Faraji Shawat (16th century) reflects the hymn cycle of Tunisia); some medieval Hebrew poetry as well (for example, פיוט סי'[מן] אברהם (f. 56v-57r), by Abraham ibn Ezra; another piyut attributed to Joseph Caspi (1280-1345) beginning יחיד ורם לו הגבורה (f. 70r); limited use of Maqam for some of the Piyutim (indicated in captions preceding certain Piyutim). The ברכת ארוסין (Order of Nuptials; f. 4v) included may indicate that Eliyahu Baśmuṭ served as a chazzan; the surname Baśmuṭ is of a number of Tunisian rabbis. Written in a 19th century Sephardic square script in the hand of Eliyahu Baśmuṭ; many captions and headings written in a calligraphic 19th century Sephardic square script. Title page designed with an eight-pointed star, drawn inside a square frame with floral motifs; flourish at top of folio (f. 1r).
