Summary:
A selection of artworks by contemporary Latin American artists that engage with the myth of "El Dorado" to evaluate its continuity into the present, sometimes offering a critical view and a path of resistance. The meetings and conversations held between the directors of three institutions, the Americas Society (USA), the Fundación PROA in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Museo Amparo in Puebla (Mexico), prompted this project to become a reality. The first step was the seminar coordinated by Edward Sullivan. Over the course of almost two years, the development of the research gave rise to a curatorial proposals, which consisted in a series or sequence of exhibitions in which each institution contributed reflections, points of view and their own versions of the present myth and its impact in each region linked to the project. "El Dorado" was not a travelling exhibition, but rather a constellation of images, texts and works developed throughout 2023 and 2024 in three different museums. "Territory" was the concept chosen by Fundación Proa to inaugurate this exhibition trilogy that includes works by Carolina Caycedo, Clorindo Testa, Víctor Grippo, Fernando Bryce, Mathias Goeritz, Stefan Brüggemann, Leda Catunda, Laura Vinci, Olga de Amaral, Teresa Pereda, art collective Mazenett & Quiroga, Sandra Gamarra, Betsabeé Romero, Santiago Montoya, Ximena Garrido Lecca, Gastón Ugalde, Marta Minujín, Benvenuto Chavajay Ixtetela, Evi Tártari, Víctor Grippo, Sergio Baur, Edward Sullivan, Gabriela Siracusano and Walter Mignolo among others.
