Summary:
The precariousness of art arises from a basic premise: art is not obvious. Its potency stems from the shifting allegiance it establishes with the "truth" of the world. Whatever model of understanding we impute to artistic production since the post-war period, art does not provide us with guarantees of understanding social, cultural and political phenomena. This book presents the ability of artists to assume, consciously or not, precariousness as a poetic force, as an internal component of the works and as a disruptive fact that prevents any satisfactory understanding. Yes, the art of Lygia Clark, Anna Bella Geiger, Leila Danziger, Rosana Paulino, Paulo Nazareth, Mathieu Pernot, Fernando Bryce, among other artists addressed in the book, does not satisfy the good critical consciences of their contemporaneity. Rather, together or individually, the works of these artists present the fragility of artistic making as a symptom of the very fragility of being-in-the-world, thinking about it, acting in the face of its adversitie.
