- "במסה מחקרית פורצת דרך, הנקראת בחלקה כנובלה היסטורית, חושף דן מירון את הקשר האנטגוניסטי בין פרנץ קפקא ויצירתו מזה, לבין הספרות העברית בת זמנו, שביאליק היה הדמות הבולטת בה, מזה. הקשר הזה לא הוכר עד כה בחקר קפקא, שהסתעף למעין מדע ספרותי בפני עצמו, וסימונו מאפשר הבנה חדשה של חשיבתו הספרותית של קפקא ופרשנות חדשה של כמה מיצירותיו, ובעיקר של האחרונה שבהן, סיפור המופת 'יוזפינה הזמרת, או עַם העכברים'. בצורה זו תורמת המסה תרומה מקורית הן ל"קפקאולוגיה", הן להבנת ההקשר הרחב של הספרות העברית של ראשית המאה העשרים ולתפקיד שמילא בהקשר זה המושג "משורר לאומי". כל זאת על רקע תיאור ברלין ה"עברית" השוקקת של שנות העשרים של המאה הקודמת"--Book flap.
