Summary:
A report on the US Air Force's Space Command (AFSPC) and its task of launching and protecting the satellites in space on which our daily life and national security have come to depend. With no worldwide agreement regarding a code of conduct for space operations, the Chinese tested an anti-satellite weapon two years ago. Now AFSPC, with billions of dollars from the Pentagon, is making new satellites more maneuverable to evade attack and also more resistant to jamming. Includes interviews with: General John Hyten, Commander, AFSPC; Colonel Bill Cooley, Director of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) at the Space and Missile Systems Center; Lieutenant Colonel Todd Benson, Commander, 2nd Space Operations Squadron; Lieutenant General Jay Raymond, Commander, Joint Functional Component Command for Space; Brian Weeden, technical adviser to the Secure World Foundation; and Deborah Lee James, Air Force Secretary.
