- Summary:
- An interview with Sean Penn, two-time Oscar winning actor and self-described experiential journalist, about his interview with drug lord Joaquin Guzman ("El Chapo") for Rolling Stone magazine. The interview was arranged through Mexican actress Kate del Castillo and took place in cartel-controlled territory where El Chapo was hiding out. After the manhunt grew too risky, a face-to-face interview was not possible. Penn sent a list of questions and El Chapo recorded his answers. El Chapo was recaptured by Mexican marines on January 8th, and Penn's article was published the next day. Penn believes his article is a failure because it did not spur conversation about U.S. policy in the War on Drugs.
