Summary:
The work "Más Notícias", by Rodolfo Amoedo, dated 1895, was part of the Second General Exhibition of the National School of Fine Arts, and today is in the Museu Nacional de Belas-Artes in Rio de Janeiro. In this book, Sonia Gomes Pereira proposes to analyze the painting and, through it, to point out the artistic paths that presented themselves to Amoedo - as well as to his contemporary painters - in the Brazilian artistic environment of the late 19th century. "It is a portrait of a woman, basically composed of three parts: the female figure seated in the center, part of the armchair, in the foreground, and the very close, largely dark background, with only one panel on the left". For the author, confrontation is a fruitful tool in the analysis of a work of art, and the comparison of this work with others by contemporary painters and by Rodolfo Amoedo himself revealed the power of this painting. The book inaugurates the Prismas collection, dedicated to publishing in-depth studies of a work of art, national or international, belonging to Brazilian collections, written by great specialists.
