- Hoare gives news to Humphry of artists and the English community in Rome, with mention of Maria Cecilia Louise (Hadfield) Cosway (for the affections of whom Hoare and Humphry were rivals), Anthony Atkinson, Sir Melmo Hadfield, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Henry Fuseli, and others. Hoare also discusses paintings by himself and by Humphry and requests information about bringing paintings and casts back to England.
