Summary:
After giving news of his recent and planned travel in Italy, Robinson makes reference to his study of Italian and of Roman antiquities but explains that his studies are disturbed by political events and insurrections in contemporary Europe and notes that the present hour is so momentous that he must be a very pedant and insensible dunce who could be desirous of occupying himself exclusively in the study of any other period. Robinson then draws many contrasts between Catholicism and Protestantism. The letter also gives news of Roman society and Englishmen including Spencer Joshua Alwyne Compton, 2nd Marquis of Northampton.
