- Summary:
- The diary describes a young Englishman's travel in Italy and Greece: Genoa, Pisa, Naples, Pompeii, Petras, Corfu, Venice, Padua, Florence, Rome. This account, although not very long, is very detailed and gives much information on Italian Renaissance art and architecture about which the author has read or been taught a good deal. The author also comments on local customs, opera, ships and sailing, scenery, food and drink, hotel accommodations, fellow British travellers, church services, and other matters.
