Biography/History:
The First Hebrew Congregation of Oakland, California, was founded as an Orthodox congregation in 1875, and completed its building at 14th and Webster Streets; Meyer Solomon Levy was their first rabbi, 1881-1891.
Summary:
Deed from the Synagogue of the First Hebrew Congregation of Oakland, stating that A.N. Wachs has paid one hundred and sixty dollars for two seats in the synagogue; signed by Aaron Art, president, and E. Bernstein, secretary, stamped and sealed; former document dorse inscribed with archival note (f. 2v).
