Work presented for promotion to Full Professor of the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Bahia, Salvador, Bahia, May 11, 2020. Memorial that punctuates the professional trajectory of visual artist and research professor Maria Virgínia Gordilho Martins Viga Gordilho. The path traced in this book follows the path of the aforementioned master, described in her own memorial to obtain the title of holder by UFBA, bordered in five flowerbeds by the rivers: Paraguaçu, Tietê, Túria, Orange and Douro. They are words sown in a timeless way, in which past and present intertwine and merge, giving rise to the metaphors that best express her feelings. It is notorious to realize that in this path, thanks to the continuous process of investigation, that this artist/teacher has maintained since the beginning of her career, pursuing nature as poetics. It was, thus, possible to rescue memories and build spaces of memories with a lot of authorial property. Yes, in the trails traveled, which were discussed in his retrospective exhibition presented at the Galeria Cañizares, among the spaces identified as water, air, earth and fire, one can find records of works and works on canvases, papers, ceramics, glass, objects of various materials, photographs and installations that, as signs, take us some to a past time; others introduce us to a present time; and still others suggest to us a future time. Thus, each one in their own time gives us the opportunity to raise our thoughts and rescue our own memories. Thus, in the present book, it is essential to understand that the strength and content of the works are germinated metaphors of an inspiration, which, with absolute adequacy, in the character of a plastic/visual archive, makes us understand that art can be closer and closer to life and collective memory. Gordilho Beam ends up recalling a solid and real story. Presentation of the book, written by Nanci Novais - PhD in Visual Arts, professor and current director of EBA-UFBA.
