Summary:
From a wide selection of more than 600 pieces, including design and archival objects, works of art, and "things for everyday life", the exhibition "From heaven to home" proposes a review of the Argentine material culture from the uses, customs, rituals and symbolisms that things generate in a society of the 20th century. Edited by Leandro Chiappa, this publication displays this review in the same unprejudiced register of the exhibition. A text specially commissioned to Martín Kohan opens the first section, which continues with an extraordinary compilation of images, a visual essay of more than 400 pages devised by Gustavo Eandi and Juan Ruades. Verónica Rossi, curator of Malba and part of the curatorial team of the project writes about the archives and their relationship with the works of art, focusing on a reconstruction of the special window displays that surrealist artist Juan Batlle Planas created for the Harrods store and in cases that respond to the typology of the "collecting artist". Also a member of the curatorial team, the journalist and researcher Carolina Muzi traces a zig-zag history of Argentine design in some of the microstories contained in the exhibition: La Birome and its creator Ladislao Biro, the surgical instruments of Dr. Pedro Curutchet or the Antarctic designs of Mario Mariño. The volume is completed with an exhaustive exhibition list, organized according to the nuclei of the room, with introductory texts and enlarged files of selected pieces.
