- "'עשר תמונות: רועה ושור" היא קלאסיקה סינית בת תשע-מאות שנה, מסכת סימבולית - תמונות קליגרפיה מלוות בתי שיר קצרים - והיא מתארת ברגישות, ביופי ובחכמה את מסעו הרוחני של המתאמן בדרך הזן. רועה יוצא לחפש אחר השור, סמל לטבעו המקורי, שמלכתחילה לא אבד. הוא מגלה את עקבותיו, תופס אותו, מאלפו ונוהג על גבו בשלווה הביתה. שם הוא שוכח את השור, שוכח גם את עצמו, אך לא נותר בעולם ה"אין", אלא "חוזר אל השוק" על מנת לפעול בעולם למען התעוררות האחרים. במשך מאות שנים במזרח, ומאוחר יותר גם במערב, המשל נודע כאלגוריה פואטית המתארת, תמונה אחר תמונה, את נתיב האימון המדורג אל ההתעוררות. סנדלי קש בעשב מתוק מבקש לקרוא את היצירה באופן נוסף, שאינו סותר את הפירוש המקובל: כעשר תמונות המתקיימות יחדיו, בו בזמן. קריאה זו איננה מוכרת בספרות המחקרית, אך היא נאמנה למסורת הצ'אן המקורית ומשתמעת ממנה בטבעיות. מתוך זיקה לשורשיה הרוחניים - טקסטים, פואמות וסיפורים בני מאות בשנים - תאיר הקריאה המחודשת את פני המשל: מסיפור על אימון הדרך לאמצעי האימון של הדרך"--Back cover.
