Summary:
In the first months of 1739, the treatise called Kevâkib-i Seb'a, that is, Seven Planets, appeared. An unnamed ulema wrote the work, but except for the lists of scientific names mentioned in the text, it was not translated into French. "The Seven Planets" explains the understanding of science in 18th century Ottoman Empire, the classification of sciences and the different stages of educational life from the first stage to the end. It provides information in a systematic order about the courses taught in madrasahs, textbooks and reference books, and their authors. This study, in which the content of the treatise Kevâkib-i Seb'a, the author's identity, environment, mentality and world of thought are determined. The Ottoman Turkish text is printed (in Arabic script) in an appendix together with the French translation of the list of scientific names.
