Summary:
The Huaca Cao Viejo is an archaeological site located in the Chicama Valley in northern Peru. Its main construction is a truncated pyramid belonging to the Moche culture (between the third and seventh centuries BC). It stands out for its colorful murals in high relief and where in 2004 the tomb of a representative of the Mochica elite, the Lady of Cao, was discovered. Since 1990 the site is studied under the Proyecto Arqueológico Complejo El Brujo (PACEB), under the auspices of the Fundación Augusto N. Wiese. On the other hand, this building did not become overnight what we see today, but is the result of various constructive efforts that reflect the political and religious dynamics of the Mochica culture of the lower Chicama. Recent studies, synthesized in this publication, give an account of the history of construction of this temple, of the relative times, and of the materials and social practices involved in the continuous growth of this famous huaca (tumb)
