Summary:
This is a manuscript manual created for the use of Reverend William Stern in Liverpool, written on the blank leaves of a printed cantor's manual (Moreh le-shaliaḥ tsibur : Handbuch für Cantoren [...] von Wilhelm Flamm; Prag, 1868; see the print record), recording occasional prayers and sermons; for example, Bar Mitzvah (f. 12v-13r), service for Hazkarat neshamot (f. 16v-19r), grave-side and mourner's prayers (f. 19v-25r), nuptials services (f. 25v-26v; "בייא איינר פרויע", that is, engagement and couple's introduction ceremony, f. 26r-v; additional services continue, "Worthy bride & bridegroom", f. 27v-32r, another on f. 36v-); for the Bar mitzvah of Avraham Levy, 18 Tevet 5635, 26 December [18]74 (f. 33r-36r), and a nuptial prayer in Judeo-German (f. 60v-62v). The musical score (f. 14r) is a composition for Simhat Torah, a march from Psalms CXI (the notes for the first two verses are recorded, followed by the final few words of the Psalm, signifying repetition).
