Summary:
This is a manuscript of a double translation of the Psalms into Latin and German, written on interleaves of a printed Hebrew edition of the Psalms (Sefer Tehilim = Psalterium [...]: Witebergae : Ex officina Iohannis Cratonis, 1576; see the print record); written and bound in to the book after printing (the manuscript's blind-ruling and the variable number of interleaves per printed folio). The Latin varies from the text of the Vulgate (for example: X:10, translating משגב לעתות בצרה as "arx temporibus in anguisia", f. 13r; LXXV:6, תדברו בצואר עתק as "loquamini callo duro" (f. 176r); the German varies from the Luther translation (for example, Psalm LXXXVIII:4 translated in this manuscript as "[...] düch allen König v[or] d. Juden" (f. 278r). Selections of the translations of specific Psalms are unfinished, such as the translation of LXII (f. 115v-116v) and CXV (f. 233r-v). Contains marginalia, such as a definition of a plant species (רתמים (for Psalms CXX:4) as "holz-Genista" (f. 257v)).
Notes:
Ms. codex.
Title supplied by cataloger.
Foliation: Paper, ix, 297, xii; modern foliation in pencil, 1-297, lower left recto.
Layout: Written in two columns (Latin translation at edge, German translation at gutter); blind-ruled between columns (one vertical bounding line).
Script: Written in cursive scripts; Psalm numerals bolded.
Binding: Blue buckram (20th century); design-printed endpapers.
Origin: Written likely in Germany, after 1783 (a note on f. 269v is a transcription of a note on that Psalm by Georg Friedrich Seiler, from his edition of the Luther Bible (Die Heilige Schrift des Alten Testaments im Auszug, samt dem ganzen Neuen Testament: Erlangen, 1783)) until approximately 1850.
