Summary:
During the period of Independence, the hieropes - magistrates of Delos responsible for managing sacred goods - had to each year draw up an inventory of offerings dedicated to Apollo and other divinities. They then had them engraved on steles that excavators from the French School of Athens unearthed many centuries later. In a thesis defended in 1959, Jacques Tréheux dealt with everything concerning vase collections, which led him to critically analyze the inscriptions published in IG XI 2 then in the ID collection. His study mainly focuses on the inventories of the Hieropoion and the Chalcothèque. J. Tréheux would have liked to extend this study to all the inventories; but his work remained unfinished. At least the seven chapters collected here teach a lot about the management of offerings, the writing of the first inventories and a certain number of terms used by the hieropes - the meaning of which he was able to clarify. Addenda and corrections due to Pierre Charneux as well as detailed indices make it easier to read and consult. -- EFA Editions website.
