Summary:
These films are famous in filmmaking circles as the breakthrough documentaries in which a camera freely travels with its subject and covers events as they unfold and were recently restored by the Archive of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts.
Blackie narrates the story of Harold F. Blackburn -or Blackie- as he pilots the final flight of his career from Rome to New York City on his 60th birthday. As we view cockpit footage of the flight and snapshots of his past, Blackie reflects on his life in the sky and his passion for flying. Most poignant in this portrait, perhaps, is the sadness that he clearly feels but never entirely acknowledges.
