Two drawings. Henry Highland Garnet was the founder of the African Civilization Society and Sarah was his second wife. She was born in Brooklyn as Sarah J. Smith, daughter of Sylvanus and Anne Smith. Sarah was the founder of the Brooklyn Equal Suffrage League; she was a teacher for over 50 years and owned a seamstress shop in Brooklyn from 1883 to 1911.
