This journal documents the Shurtleffs' trip around the United Kingdom and France. Thoughts and opinions are given of the places they visit, as well as historical and factual information that is taken from guidebooks. It includes a general index, a index of places visited and one drawing by Arthur Shurtleff. Some of the places and attractions visited on their trip include: Temple church, Westminster abbey, the South Kensington museums, Hyde Park, the British Museum, Whitechapel, Madame Tussaud's waxworks, the House of Lords and House Commons, St Margaret's church, the Tower of London, the Royal Mint, Waterloo Bridge, Windsor Great Park, Wolsey's chapel, Hampton Court, Betnhel Green, the National Portrait Gallery, the zoological gardens, Crystal Palace, Kew Gardens, the Royal Academy, St Paul's cathedral, and the tomb of Wellington, the Bodleian Library, the Sheldonian Theatre, various Oxford colleges, Magdalen Tower, various chapels and cathedrals in Oxford, Trinity College Dublin, the Bank of Ireland, Dublin castle, the Wellington Monument, the Royal College of Surgeons, Cork harbour, Loch Katrine, Calton Hill, Edinburgh castle, Arthur's Seat, Holyroodhouse, John Knox's house, and many other places.
