Nous menant sur les routes du Népal, du Pérou, du Liban, de l’Allemagne et d’ailleurs, sur les voies de l’archéologie, de l’histoire, de l’architecture et autres champs du patrimoine culturel, cet ouvrage offre un éclairage nouveau sur les différentes interprétations de l’esprit du lieu, sur les mesures architecturales qui peuvent autant lui réussir que lui nuire, sur les menaces qui l’affectent et sur les manières de le transmettre quand celui-ci n’a pas ou plus de support matériel. Découlant du premier forum international des jeunes chercheurs et professionnels en patrimoine culturel qui s’est tenu à Québec les 27 et 28 septembre 2008, lors de la tenue de la 16e Assemblée Générale d’ICOMOS, ce livre regroupe une sélection des meilleurs textes soumis par les participants. Les auteurs ont eu la possibilité de (re)penser l’esprit du lieu à la lumière des échanges interdisciplinaires qui ont fait le succès de ce forum. Les idées novatrices et constructives que renferment leurs textes révèlent leur intérêt et surtout leurs aptitudes à construire le patrimoine culturel de demain. The texts brought together in this volume offer reflection on the ways to think about and practice the spirit of place throughout the world and taking into account the various scholarly disciplines. Guiding our path through Nepal, Peru, Lebanon, Germany and elsewhere, over trails blazed by archaeology, history, architecture and other cultural heritage spheres, the book sheds new light on the varied interpretations of the spirit of place, the architectural activities able to both enhance it and do it damage, the factors which threaten it and the means for passing it on at those times when its material support is non-existent or exhausted. Fruit of the first International Forum of Young Researchers and Professionals in Cultural Heritage, held in Québec City September 27 and 28, 2008 on the site of the 16th ICOMOS General Assembly, the work presents a selection of the best texts submitted by participants. This book provided an opportunity for authors to (re)think the spirit of place in light of their discussions carried on across disciplines during the forum for the mutual benefit of all concerned. The innovative and constructive thinking shared in these documents highlights the commitment of those involved and likewise their competence for framing the cultural heritage of the future.
