Summary:
Parent-Adolescent Relationships: Perspectives, Communication and Outcomes first aims to explore the aspects communication in parent-adolescent relationships, specifically within the Malay community in Malaysia. Interestingly, this study observes the communication of mothers and fathers separately, as some previous studies highlighted differences in communication of both parents with their children. The authors present and describe the main evidence-based interventions for adolescents with behavioural problems. Interventions based on family systemic principles and cognitive-behavioral techniques demonstrate a positive impact on these adolescents. Additionally, the need to increase evidence-based interventions in diverse contexts is presented as a future challenge for theoretical and applied research. The concluding study investigates parental support, positive parent-child relations, and quality family integration, three core components of constructive parent-child interactions. Implications of the findings related to services and policy-making are discussed.
