Summary:
Long description: Interdisciplinarity has been a defining feature of Interpreting Studies from its inception. The present volume comprises a selection of papers by authors from five different European countries; the papers explore the crossroads of various subdisciplines within Interpreting Studies and beyond. The contributions show that, while traditional approaches and combinations with other established disciplines such as sociology, law or linguistics remain common, advances in technology, in particular rapid software development, require that Interpreting Studies must also adapt to and accept a new social reality. Using examples from a range of institutional settings, the authors demonstrate what the effect of these changes has been and will be on the theory, teaching and practice of interpreting.
Long description: Simon Zupan is Associate Professor at the Department of Translation Studies at the University of Maribor, Slovenia, where he teaches the theory and practice of simultaneous and consecutive interpreting. Aleksandra Nuč is a conference interpreter and instructor at the Department of Translation Studies at the University of Maribor, Slovenia, where she teaches various courses in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting.
