- La neurociencia es la disciplina que, apoyada en diversas áreas del conocimiento, estudia científica e integralmente el sistema nervioso, desde los aspectos moleculares y celulares, los estudios más avanzados sobre el comportamiento humano, las diferentes condiciones y enfermedades que lo afectan, así como las posibles aproximaciones terapéuticas y de rehabilitación. El cerebro constituye un gran misterio para la humanidad hasta el punto de considerarlo una caja negra, una unidad sellada, muy difícil de estudiar. Esta obra presenta la historia de diferentes temas relacionados con la neurociencia, abordando cada uno desde sus primeras menciones, hasta finales del siglo XX, dejando los nuevos desarrollos para quienes están interesados en aspectos contemporáneos de esta disciplina. Algunos de los aspectos estudiados incluyen una breve historia del cerebro, del tejido nervioso, de los neurotransmisores, de la neurología, la neurocirugía y la neuropediatría y algunas condiciones que comprometen el sistema nervioso: epilepsia, migraña, enfermedad de Parkinson, esclerosis múltiple y déficit de atención con hiperactividad. Se complementa con dos anexos, uno sobre etimología y Neurociencia, y otro sobre los premios Nobel que se han entregado a investigadores que lo han ganado por sus grandes aportes a la disciplina.
