Broodstock development, breeding and seed production of selected marine food fishes like, sea bass, silver pompano, cobia, groupers and rabbit fishes have found place in the book. The necessity of breeding in fish culture and hybridization have been advocated. The role of genetics in reproductive biology, breeding for genetic diversity, inheritance and variability, together with reproductive success of hybrids for hybrid vigour, growth, tolerance for stress and disease along with the need of commercial hybridization of carps, sturgeons have been documented in details in the relevant chapters of the book. Importance have also been paid on the genetics of common carp and other food fishes, together with the genetic method of fish selection, different systems of breeding, polyploidy and the methods of artificial selection and gynogenesis of fish for increasing the numerical strength of diploid gynogenetic progeny along with cytological analysis. A separate chapter has been dealt on cytogenetics in fish breeding. The gene transfer technology and production of transgenic fish together with different methods of gene transfer have also been explained in details.
